For two · Waterford city
A romantic break in Ireland's oldest city
A boutique hotel on the quays, a river outside the window, dinner a two minute stroll away and a thousand years of streets to wander. Waterford does romance quietly and well, and Number Nine sits in the exact middle of it.
A river to wake up to
Ask for one of our river view rooms and the wide River Suir is the first thing you see in the morning, with the quays waking up below. It is the single most requested thing we offer, and for good reason.
Candlelit dinners, two minutes away
Waterford's best tables are a short stroll from the front door: modern Irish in a 15th century townhouse, classic French in candlelit vaults, and a dozen spots between. See our Where to Eat guide and let us book for you.
A garden made for wandering
Mount Congreve Gardens, one of the great gardens of the world, is twenty minutes away beside the Greenway. Seventy acres of woodland garden that were, fittingly, one man's life-long labour of love.
Walk the river together
The Waterford Greenway starts at the end of our quay. Walk the riverside stretch as far as you fancy, or hire bikes and make a day of it with lunch in the valley.
Ireland's oldest city, after dark
The Viking Triangle's lanes and the Georgian streets are made for an evening wander, and in winter the Winterval festival turns the whole city centre into a light show.
The coast, when you want it
Dunmore East's thatched cottages and coves, Tramore's long strand and the cliffs of the Copper Coast are all within half an hour. Sunset at the sea, back in time for dinner.
A weekend, roughly sketched
- Friday. Arrive by train, ten minutes on foot from the platform to the quay. Check in, river view, dinner at one of the tables in our Where to Eat guide. We will book it for you.
- Saturday. A slow morning, then Mount Congreve Gardens or a walk on the Greenway straight from the door. Afternoon in the Viking Triangle, evening drink in a 260 year old pub.
- Sunday. Drive or taxi to Dunmore East for the coves and the fishing harbour, or Tramore's strand if the weather is kind. Back for a late lunch before the train home.
Every stay is different: check what's on for your dates, or let the trip planner build it around you.
